Thank you for everyone who has participated in the past Twin Cities
World AIDS Day events.
We are happy to have been an influence in raising awareness about
HIV/AIDS and reinitiating a service of remembrance in the Twin Cities.
We are grateful to have been able to raise funds for organizations
that support people living with HIV/AIDS around the world.
However, the committee has decided that our initial mission has been
met, even though we realize that the need is still great. We do not plan
to hold a World AIDS Day event for 2009.
We ask that you continue to support these organizations, which cover
support for person living with HIV/AIDS locally, state wide, and
internationally.

RAAN
- Rural AIDS Action Network
RAAN was established in 1992 to fill the gaps in service available to
people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH/A) by linking medical service
providers, social service providers, and compassionate community members
to PLWH/A and their families. RAAN envisions rural communities where
persons living with or affected by HIV/AIDS live dignified lives and
receive appropriate and compassionate medical care, and where citizens
understand the realities of transmission and prevention. (learn

Rabondo
Village
The vision of the Rabondo Community Project USA (RABCP) begins with
education- education that will serve as a catalyst for other critical
programs that will strengthen Rabondo and save its children and
families. Rabondo is a remote rural village in the southwest of Kenya- a
village lacking in the most basic and crucial of services: Viable health
care. School facilities. Sanitary systems. Electricity. Safe water;
resulting in a community devastated by poverty and AIDS. (learn

Get the facts
1981 - CDC issues the first warning about a
pneumonia effecting gay men.
1982 - CDC identifies Acquired Immune Deficit
Syndrome (AIDS).
1985 - At least one case of HIV/AIDS is identified
in every region of the world.
1986 - AZT trial begins
1990 - 10 Million people are living with HIV/AIDS.
1992 - AIDS becomes the #1 cause of death in men
25-41 years old.
2008 - Around forty million people are living with HIV throughout the world
- and that number increases in every region every day.
In the US alone,
more than 1.2 million people are infected. A new person is infected with HIV every
6.4 seconds.
Ignorance and prejudice are fuelling the spread of
a preventable disease.
